In this article we'll discuss some benefits of playing music for a living, because we already know some of the downsides, let's keep it positive and look at the brighter side...
Let's get started
Being a professional musician is like being your own boss, it’s clearly not a 9-5 job, but that doesn’t mean it’s easier, it’s a lot of hard work but you do have full control of your time and opportunities. The more creative you are business-wise, the faster you’ll grow your career. So buckle down and get ready for the ride, it’s gonna be crazy (and awesome).
2.You Do What You Love:
There’s not many people that can say they do what they love for a living, but musicians are definitely one of them. When you first start getting paid to play music it seems as it’s almost too good to be true! Obviously after some time and years of work it’ll become more normal, but it should always be exciting, unless you’re playing in a really crappy band for few bucks, in that case…you need to step up your game! (We've all been there before lol).
3.You Get To Travel:
If you love traveling then being a musician it’s for you (Well you should also love to play an instrument lol). Now in all seriousness, yes you’ll get to travel a lot as a musician, from stage to stage, which is great, although it can get tire-ing you’ll get to see a lot of the world and share your music with different audiences!. Touring will always be one of the best ways to grow as a band – artist. It can be challenging at the beginning but keep pushing and once you hit that city or town a 2nd, 3rd, 4th time, you’ll see more and more people coming to see you play.
4.You’ll Make A Ton Of Friends:
So like I was saying before, don’t get too stuck with arrangements but try to make your songs sound as professional as possible. Keep it simple and clear to understand, don’t waste time trying to create the perfect keyboard patch, you’ll have more time for that in the next albums.
5.You’ll be very disciplined
Or at least you should! Becoming a pro requires A LOT of time and dedication to master your art, countless hours every single day for many years in order to achieve the best version of yourself. This will also translate into other areas of your life, like money: managing your finances the best you can, friends: hanging out with people that are on the same path as you. And will also make you gain confidence, because you’ll realize if you work hard enough, your goals are possible. So there you go, keep it up!
